Indigo

Indigo

The homes have that recognizable Neal Communities look, but there's enough variation in architecture, home size and landscaping that you don't feel like you've walked into The Stepford Wives.

Indigo at Lakewood Ranch

Indigo at Lakewood Ranch is a gated Neal Communities neighborhood built between roughly 2015 and 2023. It has a mix of twin villas and single-family homes, with current prices ranging from the $300s into the upper $800s.

What stands out to me isn't any one house or amenity. It's the combination of a very Florida feel, a finished and established neighborhood, and a location that makes it relatively easy to get around Lakewood Ranch.

The Feel

Indigo just looks like Florida to me. The white entrance with its blue sign, palms and tropical landscaping sets the tone before you even drive through the gate. This is casual Florida, not faux-country-club Florida.

It's gated, but not guard-gated, and the neighborhood itself has had enough time to mature. Construction is finished, the landscaping is established, and there are mature trees in parts of the community. You don't have the dirt lots and construction traffic that come with buying into a neighborhood that's still being built.

Points of Interest

Indigo has two community pools, a clubhouse, fitness center, pickleball and bocce courts, a playground and other recreational areas. There's also a lifestyle director who coordinates activities for residents.

Lawn maintenance is included, which is something to factor into the HOA costs when comparing Indigo with communities where you're responsible for your own yard.

Outside the gates, the location is probably the bigger point of interest for me. Indigo is close to both Hwy 64 East and 44th Avenue East, giving you two useful east-west routes through this part of Manatee County.

Shopping, restaurants, medical services and other Lakewood Ranch amenities are nearby without having to live directly in one of the busier commercial areas.

What It's Like to Live Here

Indigo falls somewhere between a small neighborhood with a community pool and one of the large Lakewood Ranch resort communities where the amenities become a major part of the lifestyle.

There's plenty here if you want to use it, but the neighborhood doesn't feel like it's built around entertaining you.

The mix of villas and single-family homes also gives buyers more choices. Homes were built from about 2015 through 2023, so they're relatively new, but you're buying in an established resale neighborhood rather than waiting for the builder to finish the house next door.

Prices currently range from the $300s into the upper $800s, depending on the home, size, location within the neighborhood, view, pool and upgrades.

Indigo does have both HOA fees and a CDD, so I'd look at the total cost of ownership rather than just the price of the house.

A Local Perspective

For me, one of Indigo's biggest advantages is location.

Lakewood Ranch has grown considerably farther east, but Indigo is still close to SR 70 and 44th Avenue E. You're in Lakewood Ranch without feeling like you have to drive through half of Lakewood Ranch to get anywhere.

I also like that Indigo looks appropriate for where it is. The entrance is tropical and inviting, the landscaping has matured, and the neighborhood feels finished without feeling old.

It's not trying to look like a country club, and it doesn't need to.

If you want a newer Lakewood Ranch home, like having community amenities but don't need your neighborhood to feel like a resort, Indigo sits in a pretty comfortable middle ground.
