If Palm Grove has a twin sister, it's Windward—but she lives in Sarasota.
Both are Neal Communities neighborhoods with a similar Florida look and feel, but Windward sits at the southernmost point of Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota County, just off Fruitville Road and a hop, skip and a jump from Waterside Place.
For me, that's what immediately separates Windward from a lot of other Lakewood Ranch communities. You get Lakewood Ranch, but Sarasota is right outside the neighborhood.

It feels polished but not overly formal. Homes have enough variation in elevations and landscaping that it doesn't feel like the same house was repeated down every street.
Like Palm Grove, Windward offers a mix of housing rather than one type of home throughout the entire community. That gives it a little more variety in both the streetscape and the buyers it appeals to.
Windward has the amenities you'd expect in a newer Neal community, including a clubhouse, resort-style pool, fitness center, pickleball and other recreational areas, along with walking paths throughout the neighborhood.
But the bigger point of interest may be outside the gates.
Waterside Place is just a short drive away (or walk if it’s not 100 degrees) for restaurants, events and the waterfront. Fruitville Road gives you a direct route west toward Sarasota, while heading north takes you farther into Lakewood Ranch.
You're also in Sarasota County here, which is something buyers don't always realize when they first start looking at Lakewood Ranch.
Windward gives you the newer-community experience without putting you deep into the eastern expansion of Lakewood Ranch.
You have the neighborhood amenities if you want them, but you also have easy access to Waterside and Sarasota, so you're not dependent on what's inside the gates for everything.
The location can make a real difference depending on where your life takes you. Someone who regularly goes into Sarasota may look at Windward very differently from a buyer whose work, family and activities are primarily north of Lakewood Ranch.
That's why I wouldn't choose between two similar communities based solely on which house has the prettier kitchen.
Windward's biggest advantage to me is where it sits. It's at the southernmost point of Lakewood Ranch, so you can be at Waterside Place quickly, head straight west on Fruitville toward Sarasota, or go north into the rest of Lakewood Ranch.
If you're comparing Windward with Palm Grove, the homes and overall feel may seem surprisingly similar. That's when I'd stop comparing floor plans for a minute and look at the map.
Palm Grove is in Manatee County. Windward is in Sarasota County.
Which one makes more sense may have less to do with the neighborhood itself and much more to do with where you actually spend your time.
Sometimes location really is the deciding factor.
